Frequently Asked Questions

Q.    When is the garlic ready?

A.     August 1- December 15 is our main shipping/pickup season for garlic. We may extend or shorten this depending on the season and how long our inventory lasts.

Q.     How do I store garlic?

A.     The garlic will keep well at room temperature with relatively low humidity. In most homes you can store right in your kitchen out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources. If you are storing a larger quantity, a cool (60-65F) dark pantry or closet works very well. DON'T STORE IN THE REFRIGERATOR or in a tight container. Remember garlic is a living product and needs to breathe.

Q.    How long will my garlic keep?

A.    Our Juniata Garlic keeps well into April with minimal drying losses when stored properly. You may notice some dried out cloves (compost if too far gone) and more green (the future plant leaves) in the center of the clove when stored for extended periods. This green growth is no problem and is good to eat. If the garlic is actively pushing out green growth at the tip of the cloves, or growing roots, it is too cold and too humid- eat asap. For the longest keeping garlic you want a traditional braid.

Q.    What if I want to try growing my own garlic? Do you sell seed garlic?

A.    We don't specifically sell seed garlic, however all our garlic will grow if planted. We plant our Juniata Garlic in October, snap scapes in June, and harvest end of June/early July. There are many decent resources online for garlic growing. Make sure to select those corresponding to your area. To see how it is done considering volunteering on the farm. Send us a message for more details.

Q.     Is your produce organic?

A.     YES. We grow your food using no herbicides, pesticides or chemicals in living soils. We have chosen to pursue USDA Organic Certification which as of April 2025 is still in progress. We anticipate having the 2025 garlic crop be Certified Organic when it is harvested in July.

Q.    Where are you located?

A.     We are located in Peru Mills, Juniata County, in Central Pennsylvania. Mifflintown is the nearest bigger town. We are approximately 1 hour from State College, Chambersburg, and Harrisburg.

Q.     How can I support the farm?

A.     The absolute best way to support the farm is to buy our produce and if you enjoy it tell your friends and family. If you want to give a financial gift, check out the support our project page. We also accept volunteers at certain times of the year for those wanting to lend a hand on the farm. Send us an email or use the contact us form to get in touch!
